The History Of The Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club Orlando Chapter

The Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club (BSMC) was founded in 1993 in Chicago, IL by a retired Chicago Police Officer Kenneth “Dream Maker” Thomas, since 1993 the Organization has grown from one chapter to over 110 nationwide and overseas. In 1999 the Chapters collectively formed the National Association of Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers Motorcycle Club, (NABSTMC).

The NABSTMC consists of active, retired Law Enforcement Officers, Military,  Professional people dedicated to the sport of motorcycle riding and safety. We all have a passion of educating the general public about the rich history of the 9th and 10th Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers.

In the State of Florida there are eight Buffalo Soldier Motorcycle Club Chapters the Orlando Chapter was started in 2007 by David “Radio” Phelan, and Evelyn “Softail” Benton.

The Orlando Chapter has several charitable events that we organize on an annual basis, such as a Scholarship program whereas we give several $1000.00 Scholarships to local High School Seniors, several Continuation Scholarships to previous Scholarship recipients. We provide free back to school haircuts and school supplies to school aged children, provide monetary donations to assist cancer survivors. During the Christmas holidays we provide gift bags to Senior Citizens of a local nursing home.

We started a program “Shop with a Buffalo Soldier” where as we have partnered with Target, Dan Newlin & Partners to take children to the local Target to purchase Christmas toys for their families. The Orlando Chapter also has a annual Thanksgiving Luncheon for the area Seniors.

Another objective of National Association of Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers Motorcycle Club is to mentor our youth and be positive role models for our youth, so that they can be motivated to become better citizens and leaders of tomorrow.

The National Association of Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers Motorcycle Club feel that by doing this, the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers of the past will live on forever and shall not be forgotten. The colors (or the vests that we wear) represent a long history and we wear them with pride and respect.

The colors pay homage to African Americans of the 9th and 10th Calvary Buffalo Soldiers who sacrificed their lives so that our country could be what it is today. Our Colors are a badge of courage, sacrifice and honor as are those who continue to serve in the United States Armed Forces.
